Post-procedural Imaging and Device-Related Features Management

After successful LAAC (left atrial appendage closure), post-procedure follow-up imaging is necessary for device surveillance and managing antithrombotic therapy. Post-procedural surveillance imaging with transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) or computed tomography angiography (CTA) is recommended at 45–90 days following left atrial appendage closure (LAAC). It is important because it provides a complete assessment of the implanted device, including any change that occurred from the intra-procedural imaging. So, the primary focus of post-procedural imaging is to assess for peri-device leak (PDL) and device-related thrombus (DRT), which is important for decisions regarding anti-thrombotic management. Nevertheless, CTA may provide some advantages over TEE in assessing PDL and DRT.
