Clinical Rehabilitation and Rehabilitation Counseling

Rehabilitation counselors work with individuals who possess any number or combination of visible and/or invisible disabilities to achieve their individual treatment goals, and with the overall goal of increasing their autonomy and capacity for independent living. Rehabilitation Counseling is an underrecognized specialty within counseling as a profession and Counselor Education and SupervisionSupervision as a discipline. Rehabilitation counselors have their own professional history, professional identity, and specific needs in their training. This chapter briefly explores key disabilityDisability-related knowledge, rehabilitation counseling as a profession and as a specialty counseling area, and the unique skills and knowledge essential for rehabilitation counselors (rehabilitation counselors) to be successful.
