Cranio-Cerebellar Features Typically Found in Persons Diagnosed with Autism

This chapter in a way closes the block of three supporting, in-depth and instrumental chapters to get an overall biological-clinical-physiological picture. Before delving into the most well-established and accredited aetiological theories of the last thirty years, further investigation into the cranio-cerebellar characteristics of persons diagnosed with autism is required. Several studies have shown that the head circumference of autistic children at preschool age is significantly larger due to an increased amount of white matter and grey matter. In particular, it was found that the marked growth of the brain occurs in the first year of life. In this chapter, I will attempt to summarise the results of the most recent scientific investigations also favoured by the technological development of new diagnostic tools.
