The Practical Contributions of Forest Ray Moulton and Gilbert Ames Bliss to Exterior Ballistics

  • Alan Gluchoff

摘要

The enormous changes in science and technology, which occurred in the United States in the last decades of the nineteenth and first decades of the twentieth centuries, were reflected in the developments in its military branches. The replacement of the horse by new Ford automobiles and trucks, the introduction of the airplane, the use of the telephone and radio, and the harnessing of electrical power all took place in the armed forces as well as in civilian life. Steel was used to build elevated train lines as well as becoming a component of artillery shells. Technological developments made possible new and more effective weapons, required changes in tactics and battlefield strategy, and brought about new methods of manufacturing and testing ordnance.
