Setting the Context on Young People’s Career Development and Wellbeing

This book sets out to explore how career development experiences while in education inform young people’s wellbeing in the labor market. Such exploration gives us an indication of sustainable start of young people’s careers, informed by career information, advice, and guidance while in education. The core aims of this book are to (i) improve understanding of young people’s career development and wellbeing during education-to-work transitions; (ii) extend our understanding of young people’s education-to-work transitions from an interdisciplinary perspective; and (iii) develop a conceptual model and recommendations for careers and wellbeing-oriented prevention and intervention programs to assist young people as they transition into the world of work. In achieving these aims, this book offers a collection of chapters that use longitudinal data from different national educational contexts. The chapter introduces the key theoretical and practical rationales for this book and provides a brief overview of each contribution.
