Achievements of the Technical Corps Officers in Italy
摘要
Technical officers were employed in a range of tasks. The artillery took part in campaigns in Italy and elsewhere abroad and were put in charge of managing the military-industrial complex. Military engineers were needed on campaign, in sieges and building fortresses, in the construction of military buildings (especially barracks) and roads serving military ends. The geographical engineers made maps and compiled statistical/descriptive records. The technical corps officers also performed short-term operations like erecting bridges, running up field fortifications, and reconnaissance. The state of semi-permanent warfare drove them to work faster, but to the detriment of the long-term projects. For instance, the enlargement of Italian territory complicated work being done by the engineers and geographical engineers.
