Careers in the Cisalpine and Italian Technical Corps

In this chapter, we will analyze careers in the technical corps. As in France, there was both social and intellectual selection (competitive or simple examination, not always held). On top of this was geographical selection by country of origin. The officer social profile was more conservative than in France, though officers from the new Modena School generation came from the ‘notable’ class. We will then analyze advancement and mortality in the technical corps.
