Addressing the vital issue of fostering African growth involves tackling the challenge of establishing a unified and coherent vision for the transformation of higher education systems. The challenge is to reposition higher education as a catalyst, enabling it to play a meaningful role in the transformation of Africa. Hence, it is crucial for scholars to reimagine research beyond publication to include innovation. There’s absolutely no doubt that research and innovation skills should take priority if Africa is to capture value from the global shift to a digital economy. Africa will never be able to compete with the likes of the USA, the UK, China, and India in innovation unless business and education succeed together. This chapter adopted a reflective methodology as a guide to examine reflections from some scholars’ research-based innovation approach. The findings led to the development of a model dubbed ‘The Research-based Innovation Model’. This model provides a roadmap for all African researchers to navigate their careers effectively. By embracing philosophy, skills, collaboration, tools, persistence, and measurement, African innovators can drive positive change and advance their career journeys.
