摘要

Aviation is a specialized community with its own specific mission, skillsets, military regulations, standards, and culture. Therefore, military aviation communities require uniquely trained embedded behavioral health providers to care for its members adequately and specifically. The primary goal of aeromedical psychology is to ensure the psychological health, fitness, and safety of all aircrew by applying principles of psychology within the aviation environment. This is done by providing quality assessment and treatment of aircrew, consulting with aviation unit commanders and aeromedical providers, and maintaining a presence in the unit. To be an effective member of the aviation medicine team, the aeromedical psychologist is familiar with U.S. Army aviation medicine publications and applies the content in their aeromedical decision-making process. Leveraging trust and building relationships as an embedded provider can help dispel myths and encourage help-seeking behavior. By being present, the aeromedical psychologist helps safeguard the unit and aircrew’s medical readiness, psychological well-being, and flight safety.
