Allyship

Antiracism and allyship are primary pathways to eliminating racism in institutions and in society. Antiracism is a deliberate action against racial hatred. It is structured around conscious and deliberate actions to provide equitable opportunities for all people on an individual and systemic level. Allies are driven by the hope of equity and by the cause without a personal agenda for reward or glorification. Persons becoming allies and anyone planning for antiracist action need an informed understanding of structural racism. Allyship is an ongoing life-long learning process that requires a lot of listening. Processes of encountering personal risk, internal and often painful self-knowledge and reflection are needed. Allies must consistently commit to action rather than striving to achieve a status or title.
