Racism

Structural racism is considered the most influential of all types of racism and discrimination that exists in the American society and health care institutions are not exempt. Structural racism is ingrained in customs, practices, and law. In health care discrimination, bias and microaggressions are primary ways in which racism is enacted. The historical origins of racism and these and other downstream manifestations in health care need to be understood and remedied.
