Introduction

The overarching goal of the structural racism, bias, and microaggressions for health care professionals parallels curricula found in undergraduate and graduate university course work. Using narratives, we address racism, the historical context, and the downstream effect of bias and microaggressions in the health care environment. A narratives approach to building equity engages participants to (i) understand the historical context of structural racism, (ii) identify the downstream effects of bias and microaggression, (iii) practice skills for disarming harmful microaggressions, (iv) pursue allyship and antiracism, and (v) promote self-care. We provide a collection of contributed narratives that should stimulate further self-reflection and discussion among groups of learners.
