Detection and Prevention of Cyberattacks in Healthcare

This chapter discusses the methods for detecting and preventing cyberattacks in healthcare organizations emphasizing cyber kill-chain, cyberattacks, and detection and prevention strategies. The chapter begins by exploring the attacker’s characteristics and seven attack phases that are typically used by advanced attackers. It then describes the characteristics and types of the most common cyberattacks in healthcare, including malware, ransomware, phishing, data breaches, social engineering, distributed denial of service, man-in-the-middle attacks, network attacks, and wireless attacks. The chapter proceeds with detection methods and discusses various prevention strategies including security awareness training and response procedures and plans.
