Surgical Techniques for Unilateral Cleft Lip Nose Repair
摘要
The author’s philosophy for cleft lip and palate repair is supported by 30 years’ experience dedicated to this field. It is characterized by an individualized treatment of the cleft deformity, and his cleft lip and palate classification based on cleft severity is supporting this protocol. During all this time, different techniques have been used for primary nose repair from more conservative methods like Mc Comb to the actual vestibular lengthening techniques observing significant advances in terms of quality of the outcomes. Our main issue during first years was the nose deformity relapse, and now the used methods have been improved this limitation. The rotational composite flap and the V-Y-Z techniques are used actually by the author to address the nose deformity in unilateral cleft lips. These methods have been studied and published observing good quality of outcomes and long-term effect. In order to evaluate the efficacy of these surgical methods, I present the surgical outcomes obtained without the use of any type of presurgical orthopedics. These presurgical methods are not used by the author for unilateral cleft lip patients. They are described in detail and included well-illustrated cases in this chapter.
