Conclusion: The EU–LAC Partnerships

This chapter reviews and evaluates some of the main discussions in this book regarding the different forms of interaction between the EU and LAC. The chapter argues that the euro-Atlantic relationship can be studied through liberal partnerships, the various levels of convergence, and the role of the EU as a capacity-building actor. It expands on the idea that the EU can potentially strengthen alliances to the degree that the Latin American counterpart holds liberal perspectives. The EU and its Latin American counterparts, whether a country or a region, can both be proponents of liberal policies and actions.
