Parents, Patients, Ward Clinicians, and Other Stakeholders in Rapid Response Systems

The stakeholders of pediatric rapid response systems (RRSs) include the recipients of care (the patients and their families), those who provide the care (the bedside clinicians of all disciplines), consulting services, the rapid response team (RRT), trainees from all disciplines, and RRS-related administrators. Understanding the roles of each stakeholder group in the context of the local rapid response system and facilitating the fulfillment of those roles can improve the performance of the rapid response system. The input and engagement of these stakeholders are a central element of effective rapid response system. Without patients, their families, and frontline clinicians, the rapid response team would exist in a vacuum. We describe the roles of these stakeholders in the rapid response system, their responsibilities, and how viewing these responsibilities through the lens of individual stakeholder groups can help achieve the overarching objectives of rapid response systems.
