“Second Victims”: Care for Caregivers Using a Rapid Response Model

Today’s healthcare workforce has faced extraordinary clinical trials. Most adjust to the variety of demands encountered during an emotionally challenging clinical event. However, emotional stress can cause the individual to experience the ‘second victim phenomenon.’ Realizing the impact of this experience and recognizing the need for supportive interventions by a trusted peer is important to promote a healthy recovery. This chapter provides insights regarding support strategies for any member of the healthcare workforce using a rapid response team model.
