Promotion of Sustainable Livelihood Among Women Construction Workers

Migration is the movement of people from one place to another. Migration can be permanent, temporary, voluntary or forced. It can be international or internal. Migration is an important feature of human civilization. It reflects, human endeavor to survive in the most testing conditions both natural and man-made. Since vocational development is a continuous process, vocational guidance is needed at all stages of development. The home and the family have an important influence on person’s vocational development. Vocational education should help the girls to evaluate their own abilities and interests, and related these to the differential requirements of various curricula and occupations. Entrepreneurship provides women with greater control over their work, flexibility, and the potential for higher earnings. The major objectives of the study were to study the skill assessment of the women construction workers, to provide skill training and analyze the effectiveness of skill training to become entrepreneurs in future. It was observed that women had showed keen interest to learn new vocational skills that would sustain their livelihood. However, there was no opportunity provided to enhance, learn and reskill their vocational skills. Lack of family support, nature of work involved and lack of support from the construction site management.
