The main aim of this paper is to analyse the sustainable development goal (SDG) performance of the four Southern states such as Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu. This study also attempted to bring out the various schemes initiated by these state governments in achieving various SDGs. Karnataka has the highest percentage of people living below the poverty line at 20.91%, while Kerala has the lowest at 7.05%. Tamil Nadu has the highest percentage of insurance coverage at 64.10%, whereas Karnataka has the lowest at 28.10%. Tamil Nadu has the highest percentage of MGNREGA employment at 98.83%, while Andhra Pradesh has the lowest at 87.77%. Tamil Nadu also leads in maternity benefits coverage at 29.50%, with Kerala following at 20.40%. Andhra Pradesh has the highest percentage of homeless households at 15.34%, and Kerala has the lowest at 3.40%. The southern states are performing well with high scores through the implementation of various welfare schemes. The southern states like Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh are performing significantly with SDG 2 indicators. Tamil Nadu’s index score is 61, Kerala’s 72, Karnataka with 54 and Andhra Pradesh with 50. The SDG index of the selected states is depicted in the above table. The above-noted states are performing tremendously on all the SDGs in the year 2020–21. Tamil Nadu scores 74 which is comparatively high score with other states of India. Similarly, Kerala with 75, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh with a score of 72 respectively.
