To achieve the set objectives of this paper such as examining the trend of women’s labour participation rate in India and analysing the relationship between women’s labour force participation and the gross domestic product of India. The article has been formulated based on the secondary data sources collected from published data. The data sources are from the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI). The collected data has been tabulated and inferred to answer the stated objectives of the study. The Female WPR shows a general declining trend over the years, indicating a decrease in the proportion of women participating in the workforce. From 2005 to 2018, there was a consistent decline in the Female WPR, with the rate dropping from 30.136 in 2005 to 20.538 in 2018. There has been some fluctuation in the Female WPR in the most recent years (2019–2022). After reaching a low of 20.538 in 2018, the rate increased to 23.722 in 2019, decreased to 22.679 in 2020, and then rose again to 23.966 in 2022. The fluctuation in recent years could be due to various factors such as changes in economic conditions, social policies, and cultural shifts impacting women’s participation in the workforce. This data suggests a need for further analysis to understand the factors contributing to the long-term decline and the recent fluctuations in the Female WPR.
