In the final chapter, I examine the search for the ‘missing’ component in the Victorian view of the universe, the ether of space. Lodge believed it existed and enabled interactions between mind and matter, but when experiments failed to confirm its existence, he set about a range of new investigations with mediums, including Eusapia Palladino. These new investigations appeared to demonstrate a range of psychic and physical interactions, but distanced Lodge’s research from the emerging scientific mainstream.
