Gamma Knife® Stereotactic Radiosurgery and Hypofractionated Stereotactic Radiotherapy

The Gamma Knife represents a dedicated tool for performing radiosurgery for brain tumors among other indications. There have been significant developments in the Gamma Knife technology over the years, including the ability to hypofractionate treatments and leverage powerful inverse planning tools. The techniques and current results of the treatment of brain tumors with Gamma Knife Radiosurgery are summarized in this chapter. In addition to a description of dose planning, dose guidelines for both target and organs at risk are presented. This chapter aims to provide a construct for the reader to develop radiosurgery skills in the CNS.
