As integral components of terrestrial ecosystems, forests play a crucial role in global climate regulation and biodiversity conservation, providing essential ecosystem services. Climate change significantly affects forest ecosystems worldwide, influencing their phenology—the timing of seasonal events such as bud burst, leaf fall, and flowering. This chapter explores the dynamic relationship between forest phenology and climate change, examining the mechanisms behind timing shifts and their ecological consequences. Additionally, it investigates adaptive strategies employed by forests to mitigate climate change effects, including natural adaptations among species and human-assisted adaptations through forest management and afforestation. The chapter covers current methods to monitor and predict forest phenological changes, highlighting ongoing research and advancements. Challenges and limitations in understanding and managing forest phenology are discussed, with case studies from various regions illustrating real-world implications of phenological adaptation.
