Urbanization and Climate Change: Impacts, Adaption and Mitigation Strategies
摘要
This chapter explores the multifaceted relationship between urbanization and climate change, highlighting their combined impacts on urban environments and proposing effective strategies for adaptation and mitigation. Urbanization accelerates environmental changes, exacerbating the effects of climate change through phenomena such as the Urban Heat Island effect and alterations in air quality. These changes pose significant challenges to urban ecosystems, including urban forests, soil quality, and biodiversity. However, strategic mitigation measures and adaptive strategies help alleviate these challenges, emphasizing the importance of green infrastructure, urban planning, and ecosystem-based management approaches. Integrating ecological principles, understanding local contexts, and implementing sustainable practices lead us to enhance resilience and encourage sustainable urban development in the face of urbanization and climate change. Further, this chapter provides insights and recommendations for policymakers, urban planners, and stakeholders to navigate the complexities of urbanization and climate change while promoting the preservation and prosperity of urban environments.
