The Irony of Poverty Amidst Claims of Abundance in Africana Pentecostal Settings? In the Present But Looking Back and Forward
摘要
The theme of prosperity features prominently in global Pentecostalism. It has generated considerable debate, with scholarship sharply divided. For some, the notion of prosperity in Pentecostalism has been overstretched and undermines the theology of the cross. For others, prosperity is quite consistent with the overarching message of the Bible. The theme of prosperity has a special place in African Pentecostalism. However, there is debate on its applicability in Africana contexts where poverty also features prominently. This chapter reviews the viability of Africana Pentecostal strategies of addressing poverty. It reflects on the potential and perils of deploying Africana Pentecostal biblical hermeneutics in responding to poverty.
