Conceptualising the Application of Digital Twins in Supply Chain Management: A Path Towards Supply Chain Resilience

  • Rajinder Bhandal

摘要

As a concept, digital twin has been around in industry for well over 20 years, with its roots in Product Lifecycle Management (PLM). The world of business is experiencing a technological transition towards embracing digital technologies, namely digital twin. In recent years, supply chain management as a discipline is moving towards digital twin adoption. The reality is that the pace of digital twin adoption is increasing at an exponential rate. Accordingly, this chapter presents one the earliest attempts towards developing a conceptual framework of supply chain resilience, mapped out on the digital twin capabilities periodic table, established by the Digital Twin Consortium (2022). The conceptual framework identifies nine factors to consider towards addressing supply chain resilience, this includes: responsiveness, risk management, risk mitigation, original state, visibility, optimization, speed, recovery time, and firm performance. The chapter concludes by highlighting the current challenges, opportunities, and considers the notion of preparedness for the future.
