Civic Participation—The Key to Local Energy Transition?

The chapter gives an introduction to civic participation and discusses its role in the process of energy transition from fossil fuels to renewable energies. It includes a classification of civic participatory processes and shows advantages and determinants based on literature review. With these approaches, six European case studies are analyzed in regards to their depth of participation and the motivation as well as the identification of the citizens to show the significance of civic participation in the process of local energy transition.
