Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) Applied to Water Treatments Technologies for Water Reuse

Nowadays the significance of water reuse in addressing water scarcity and maintaining sustainable water management practices has become evident. With freshwater demand on the rise and water resources under increasing stress, the necessity for effective water reuse technologies is increasingly apparent. It is imperative to carefully evaluate the environmental sustainability of these technologies to ensure they contribute positively to environmental protection and resource conservation. This chapter delves into the utilization of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to evaluate the environmental impacts of water reuse technologies and steer decision-making toward more sustainable approaches. LCA applied to water treatment for water reuse was considered as an example and disassembled step-by-step. Recommendations for applying LCA to water treatment technologies on different steps of LCA were provided.
