摘要

The focus of this chapter is on application of the computational fluid dynamics with discrete element method (CFD–DEM) in simulating the complex multiphase flow field of cyclone separators for augmenting their efficiency and efficacy. The cyclone separators are used as a cornerstone equipment in various industries for particle separation. By examining the principles, methodologies, and recent advancements in CFD-DEM, an understanding of the complex flow dynamics and particle behavior inside the cyclones is investigated. Through exploration of several case studies, simulations, and experimental validations, this chapter elucidates the transformative potential of CFD–DEM in optimizing the cyclone design, enhancing its separation efficiencies, and minimizing the energy consumption. From elucidating the intricate interplay of forces governing particle separation to providing insights into the design intricacies for diverse applications, this chapter serves as a comprehensive guide to demonstrate the full potential of CFD–DEM in the realm of cyclone separator optimization.
