摘要

The integration of the simulations of the discrete element method (DEM) with the aerodynamic separation systems represents an important breakthrough for accurate calculation of the particle dynamics in fluid systems in many industrial processes. This chapter describes the advancements associated with utilizing the DEM in aerodynamic separators, shedding light on the fundamental principles and computational techniques that drive this synergistic relationship. As industries such as food and agricultural processing continue to seek more efficient and precise particle separation methods, incorporation of DEM in CFD codes for simulations of particles in fluids emerges as a pivotal solution methodology. This chapter highlights the benefits of employing the DEM, from improving the process efficiency to optimizing the equipment design. Additionally, the chapter explores the key challenges and prospects in this evolving field, providing a roadmap for researchers, engineers, and practitioners to harness the full potential of DEM in aerodynamic systems.
