Mangroves: A Review of Its Functions, Adaptations, and Resilience

This review article explores the critical role of mangroves in the face of environmental change, focusing on their remarkable adaptations and resilience. Mangroves are woody plant communities that can grow at the transitional zone between the ocean and the land. They are unique as they exist in conditions of high salinity, temperature, extreme tides and winds, and anaerobic and muddy soils. They have evolved remarkable adaptation to face these challenges. Even though they are well adapted to natural stresses, they may be sensitive to anthropogenic activities. Understanding the intricate mechanisms underlying mangrove resilience is essential for effective conservation and management efforts in the context of an ever-changing world.
