Soft Tissue and Bone Tumors of the Head and Neck
摘要
Although benign fibroblastic/myofibroblastic, nerve sheath, vascular, and fatty tumors may arise in the head and neck region, the distribution of sarcomas in this anatomical location is limited to 5–10% of all soft tissue sarcomas. Besides clinical presentation and imaging, most mesenchymal tumors in the head and neck region show a spectrum of distinctive microscopic and immunohistochemical features, and some of them are recurrent genetic abnormalities, providing a specific diagnosis. Most of these tumors are accessible for percutaneous biopsies, and a fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) is a widely used procedure in the examination and diagnosis of mesenchymal neoplasms in the head and neck.
