Curriculum in the Global Culture: Globalisation and Education Reform for Social Justice: South Africa

The objective of this chapter is firstly to highlight the impeding conditions facing education in South Africa which is still very much embedded in centuries of the apartheid era, as a benchmark to understand some reasons for the current state of education in South Africa, and secondly to argue for understanding and education reform for social justice. A country’s strength hinges on its education system for future economic growth and sustenance. How a country treats its people and the standards it sets for them will usually result in a country’s outcomes, and ability to compete globally. The celebrated African belief is that when you educate a child, you educate an entire village. It holds for a country also, when you educate a community, you educate a nation. When you educate a nation, you educate the world.
