Globalisation, Education, Policy, and Curricula Issues: Developing Global Competencies via Digital Media—Technological Capital

This study examines the role of technology in internationalization and education for higher education students. One aim is to investigate how these modern students adapted their technology and social media use during COVID-19 and what skill sets will be valuable in an increasingly technologically driven society. This study proposes the importance of technological capital, which became increasingly relevant during the heavily remote and technology-driven learning used during the COVID-19 era. A literature review will first frame the background of key topics this study seeks to clarify. Secondly, a presentation of the study methodology and findings will explore how modern Japanese university students fit into this picture. Because the data is exclusive to Japanese students, additional information will be provided about the technological and educational context relevant to Japan. This study aims to provide a more detailed perspective into these issues, grounded by a qualitative presentation of student voices.
