Ultrasound-Guided Percutaneous Cryoneurolysis for Acute Pain Management in Surgical and Trauma Patients

摘要

Ultrasound-guided percutaneous cryoneurolysisCryoneurolysis is a minimally-invasive procedure that involves the use of extreme cold temperatures to destroy target tissues. CryoneurolysisCryoneurolysis has been increasingly used for the treatment of acute painAcute pain, particularly in surgical and trauma patients. By applying cold temperatures to target nerves, transmission of pain signals to the brain may be disrupted. This therapeutic modality can provide long-lasting pain relief that persists for weeks to months and diminishes the need for additional opioidsOpioids. This chapter will cover acute pain indications for cryoneurolysisCryoneurolysis for surgical (e.g. mastectomy, joint arthroplasty, thoracotomy, limb amputation) and trauma (e.g. acute burns and rib fractures) indications. Several reports have shown that cryoneurolysisCryoneurolysis can be an effective treatment option with a low riskRisks of complications when provided to the appropriate patient and nerve. As the use of ultrasound-guided percutaneous cryoneurolysisCryoneurolysis continues to expand, further research is needed to determine the optimal application of this procedure for different pain conditions, as well as to further refine the technique and improve patient outcomes.
