Sociodemographic Determinants of Desired Fertility Among Women Working in Formal Sectors in Abuja, Nigeria
摘要
The main goal of this study was to determine desired fertility among women working in formal sectors in Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, Nigeria. The study utilized both quantitative and qualitative data. A multistage sampling technique was adopted to select the sample population using clustered sampling, stratified sampling, and purposeful sampling. For data collection, questionnaire, interview, and Focus Group Discussion (FGD) were employed. For analyzing the data, chi-square cross-tabulation analysis was used to test for significant association between the dependent variable (desired fertility) and independent variables (demographic variables) at P < 0.05 and P < 0.001. The test for significant association revealed that desired fertility was significantly related to some sociodemographic determinants such as current age, age at marriage, and child mortality. The study recommends that policy should be put in place to abolish early marriage, interspousal communication should be encouraged, and effective and efficient family planning services should be made available and accessible for couple at all socioeconomic status.
