  • Gwen K. Healey Akearok

摘要

In this chapter, the reader will learn about contemporary academic narratives on Arctic Security, specifically in the Canadian context, as well as about Inuit community voices, perspectives, and worldviews on the topic of what makes a good, safe, secure life in the Arctic. This chapter first dives into some contemporary issues, such as the Northwest Passage and Hans Island, and then delves into examples of Inuit roles in Arctic security including the Canadian Rangers and the importance of Inuit knowledge and science in the stewardship of the Arctic. A discussion of Inuit place names and trails provides an introduction to concepts from the Inuit worldview and the relational nature of Inuit knowledge and science in relation to the Arctic environment and security. The chapter concludes with a discussion about resilience and captures community voices on emerging topics in Arctic security and ensuring prosperity for future generations.
