Trends and Challenges in the Working Conditions of Digital Platform Workers: An Analysis in the Post-Pandemic Era

The pandemic, COVID19, caused the modification of the global labour market, accelerating its digitalization and with it, making the subjects invisible: the worker and the employer of the employment relationship. Since 2013, Mexico has adopted digital policies and since 2017 it has promoted the transformation of our country’s labour model. Despite this, little research has been done regarding the real agency of digital platforms, which exercise acts of organization, control and sanction of the activities carried out by workers through them, so that the work that derives from digital platforms must be respected, protected, and guaranteed by the State. The purpose of this chapter is to examine the public policy on the digitalization of work in Mexico and how it affects the protection or job insecurity of digital platform workers. The methodology to be used is mixed, consisting of a questionnaire to workers on digital web work platforms and geolocation as a quantitative element; seven in-depth interviews with experts, and content analysis of three Facebook groups, and documentary interpretation as qualitative methodological tools.
