This book chapter provides a comprehensive description of reconfigurable hardware or Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA), including its architectures, current developments, and diverse applications. This book chapter also covers a compilation of infrastructures that make use of FPGA and finally concludes by examining FPGA-based real-time systems designed for both critical and non-critical applications.
