Numerical Study of the Effect of Local Heat Flow on the Thermal-Stress-Strain State of the Rod Variable Cross-Section

In this paper, the thermal-stress-strain state of a horizontal rod whose lateral surface is fully thermally insulated is numerically investigated. The radius of the rod along its length varies nonlinearly and decreases along the length of the rod. At the left end of the rod the heat flux with constant intensity is supplied, while at the right end the heat exchange with the environment takes place. At the same time, the values of heat exchange coefficient and ambient temperature are assumed to be constant. The influence of heat flow on the values of elongation, axial force, as well as on the nature of the laws of distribution of temperature, displacement, strain and stress along the length of the rod is numerically investigated. A numerical method based on the variational principle is applied for the study.
