The Effect of Academics’ Openness to Experience Trait on the Behavior of Sharing Knowledge Voluntarily in Bahrain’s HEIs

Higher educational institutions (HEIs), as knowledge-intensive firms, develop strategies for sustainable knowledge-sharing behavior among academics. However, challenges persist in motivating academics to share knowledge for the common good of society. This study investigates the correlation between the “Openness to Experience” (OE) personality trait and voluntary knowledge sharing behavior (VKSB) among academics in Bahrain’s HEIs, motivated by their prosocial value motive (PVM). A questionnaire survey involving 336 academics examined their personality traits and VKSB when motivated by PVM. Results indicated a positive relationship between OE and VKSB, mediated by PVM. These findings support the development of personality-based recruitment strategies, contributing to Bahrain’s 2030 vision of becoming an educational hub.
