Students’ Mental Health and Sustainable Learning Practices in Saudi Arabia
摘要
Although mental health and sustainable development are not linked with each other very often or have not been looked at, one thing is certain: they are concomitants. On the one hand, sustainability is a transdisciplinary approach in its essence, and it incorporates mental health in such a way that both become essential for each other. On the other hand, mental health is a fundamental component of a functional or dysfunctional society, depending on the state of mental health of its people (World Health Organization, A Report of the World Health Organization. Abuse in collaboration with the Victorian Health Promotion Foundation and The University of Melbourne, Department of Mental Health and Substance, 2004). Therefore, it is necessary to understand that incorporating mental health into sustainable development brings socioeconomic stability as it averts any ramifications of mental illnesses (Lund et al., Social determinants of mental disorders and the sustainable development goals: a systematic review of reviews, 2018). The study at hand focuses on understanding the correlation between mental health and sustainability, and the educational as well as socioeconomic repercussions of mental health on students. Students’ mental health and sustainable learning practices are interconnected; a healthy learning environment also brings sustainable development because psychological motivation is the fundamental component for a better connection between mental health and a sustainable environment. As the study highlights the importance of students’ mental health and sustainable learning practices in Saudi Arabia and tries to understand the connection between mental health and sustainable development, the following questions will guide us throughout the research: What is the relationship between a healthy learning environment and sustainable development? What is the role of students’ mental health in sustainable learning practices?
