Socially Constructing Compassionate Care into Higher Education: An Adaption of the National Health Service England’s 6Cs Values
摘要
This chapter seeks to generate knowledge from seminal and current policies on the 6Cs values and model of care for nurses, midwives, and other healthcare professionals to present the argument for socially constructing compassionate care into higher education by adapting the National Health Service (NHS) England’s 6Cs values and model of care, referred to as the 6Cs in this chapter. Theoretically, the chapter explores how the NHS 6Cs are constructed, as evidenced in the international literature, to support the case for embedding them into higher education settings. Bronfenbrenner’s socioecological model illustrates the relationship between students and other stakeholders, including policymakers. Existing definitions of the 6Cs from policies and research are presented, followed by a redefinition of the 6Cs for adaptation and integration into higher education settings. It is important to note that the literature on the 6Cs values and model of care in higher education is sparse, with much of the existing research focusing on nurses, midwives, and other healthcare workers. Therefore, this chapter offers an original contribution to the international literature on embedding the NHS 6Cs into higher education settings and their broader impact on student experience beyond healthcare contexts.
