Local Jewish Organizations

This chapter provides lists with contact information (name, address, phone number, website) for hundreds of Jewish Federations, Jewish Community Centers, Jewish Family Services, Jewish Vocational Services, and Jewish Free Loans. In addition, a list of Israeli embassies and consulates is provided. For synagogues and college Hillels, websites are provided that contain lists of these organizations as we simply do not have the space in this volume to provide extensive lists of these organizations nor do we have the resources to update them annually. The purpose of this chapter is to document the institutional infrastructure of the North American Jewish community and to preserve this information for historical purposes. We expect that historians 100 years from now will look back at the Year Book in researching the history of North American Jewry. In a sense, we are “freezing” the information in time. The information on the internet, of course, changes as frequently as the webmasters update that information, meaning that without this freezing, historians in the future will not have a record of the infrastructure of the community. Each list is carefully updated each year, but the authors appreciate any corrections noted by our readers. We have found that the information we can find on the internet is far from accurate.
