Implementing Fog Computing in Precision Agriculture for Real-Time Soil Health Monitoring and Data Management
摘要
Innovativeness of this initiative comes in enabling the application of fog computing in the field in order to make the real-time monitoring of soil health and the management of agricultural data possible. The contemporary industrial agriculture face the challenge of the evaluation of the soil condition appropriately and on time if one aims to improve the production of crops and resource efficiency. The core goal of the mission is to leverage the capabilities of fog computing technology so as to ensure uninterrupted and continuous soil health monitoring, equipping every farmer to take reliable decisions. The practical application concentrates on the deploying of the fog nodes which are sensor-equipped in the strategic places across the farmlands with the purpose of collecting a comprehensive dataset concerning the soil condition. Another important role is the processing of these aforementioned data at the edge, thereby shortening the transmission latency and relieving the pressure from the limited bandwidth resources. In addition, fog computing is the technology that not only gathers data but also manages data, analyzes data processing in real-time, and provides secure storage facilities. In this manner, the initiative provides soil health information that is not only diverse but also available for the farmers, thus enabling the growth and adoption of precision agriculture that is data-based.
