Digital Business: Enabling the Transition Towards Sustainable Consumption and Production

Digital business is a core force for economic competitiveness in the ongoing conditions of the world development. The coronavirus pandemic highlighted the importance of digitalization for SDG promotion, accessibility to education, social and commercial activity, and attracting foreign direct investment. These trends call for the transformation of the economic landscape and customer behavior. The paper aims at analyzing the relationship among digital business, customer relationship and sustainable development goals. The object of research is the EU countries for the period of 2011–2021. The study applies the following methods to test the hypothesis: Levin-Lin-Chu, Im–Pesaran–Shi, Harris-Tzavalis and Breitung stationary tests, fixed and random effects models, and Hausman tests. The findings allowed making the conclusion that enhancing digital business with the continuous improvement of customer relationship management is conducive to the achievement of SDGs, particularly SDG 12 – Responsible consumption and production. In this case, it is necessary to accumulate the EU investments for the digital transformation of the EU and partner countries considering legislation and the best practices of the leading companies.
