Correlational Analysis of Posture and Body Pain Among Handloom Weavers

摘要

Weaving involves long and demanding periods of repetitive and monotonous tasks. Weavers usually work in a seated position with their backs and heads curved forward. The tasks require intense visual focus, concentration, and precision. Musculoskeletal disorders arise due to awkward postures, repetitive movements, and contact stress. The study aims to investigate the correlation between posture and bodily pain. 30 handloom weavers aged 20–39 years with experience of more than 6 months were selected randomly from the Kaithoon area of Kota district. Standardized Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) (Hignett and McAtamney 2000) was used to assess posture and the Nordic questionnaire (Kuorinka et al. 1987) was used to assess bodily pain. Findings suggested that poor posture while weaving can increase the risk of musculoskeletal disorders. Lower back, upper back, shoulder, and ankle were observed to be the most common areas with high rates of discomfort and musculoskeletal disorders.
