Conversational UX in Textile Testing Laboratory

Textile testing laboratories play a vital role in upholding product quality through ISO-compliant procedures. However, a key hurdle impacting both efficiency and accuracy lies in the reliance on manual data entry during testing. This paper uncovers challenges and proposes solutions for the same. Through a habitat study at a textile testing laboratory, manual data entry during testing was identified to be the bottleneck in the entire workflow which increased delays and human errors. Various design methodologies were employed such as as-is journey mapping and task analysis to narrow down the problem. To address the limitation, smart glass was proposed which can capture data, results, analyse, and input them in LIMS software eliminating manual data entry. This conversational solution was designed using structured approaches such as creating a system persona, mapping conversational flow, and performing UX writing for the proposed voice interface. This intervention aims to achieve key goals such as reducing manual data entry and allowing technicians to dedicate time to testing procedures and critical thinking tasks. Automating data capture ultimately reduces human error leading to accurate results and improved quality of testing. This study further evaluates user experience by conducting preliminary user testing. This study holds the potential of optimising textile testing by addressing the critical bottleneck and improving efficiency and accuracy gains. By focusing on user-centric design principles and a data-driven approach, the study aims to demonstrate the value proposition of smart glasses and their potential adoption in the textile testing industry.
