Biophilic Design in Traditional Architecture: Exploring Sustainable Practices in Indigenous Kitchens and Analysing the Strategy for Small Commercial Kitchens
摘要
The concept of biophilia stresses that humans, in general, are attracted to nature and natural processes, therefore incorporating these aspects to design and architecture can lead to the creation of a human-centric solution for the climate crisis. The application of this form of architecture includes the addition of plants inside houses; the present research puts into perspective how biophilia is not merely a vision but a way of creating multi-sensory stimuli. This study shows similarities between the art styles of traditional Indian architecture and the recent emergence of Biophilic designs (BD). The addition of natural elements such as small plants, the sound of water and free green space in the architecture can make sure that the human mind and body feel relaxed and ensure a sense of peace and calm. The research presents the way BD can improve the quality of relations between nature and human beings. Focusing on this relationship might benefit the restoration of nature and heighten the well-being of human beings in the hustle and bustle of everyday city life. The connection between nature and humans has existed for a long time. Due to modernisation, this connection was severed and therefore, re-establishing this connection has become highly important. The introduction of natural elements such as sunlight, natural light, natural air and tools made of natural elements can improve the quality of kitchen designs. Workers will have a better work environment and thus the productivity of commercial kitchens (CK) can be improved significantly. This study analyses such aspects of modern and sustainable designs and provides a comprehensive idea regarding the ways CK can be improved.
