Tackling Substance Abuse Among Youth in India
摘要
Substance abuse among youth in India is a growing public health concern. This study explores the prevalence, risk factors, and consequences of drug use to raise awareness. Surveys are conducted with 68 users on the usage patterns, commonly consumed drugs, and how they are initiated to these drugs. The research also highlights challenges associated with quitting, including negative social influences and a lack of support systems. After interviewing the users and investigating physical and mental health problems such as weight loss, low energy, and mood swings, a novel framework, ASCEND is developed to tackle substance abuse among youth in India. This framework is embodied within the RISE smartphone application, featuring self-monitoring tools, goal setting with rewards, engaging games, and a supportive online forum. Further, the Usability testing demonstrates RISE’s user-friendliness and potential to empower users in their recovery by fostering self-awareness, motivation, and relapse prevention.
